With its colorful cobblestoned roads, elegant churches, and the number of UNESCO heritage sites, it is a must-visit on anyone’s list. What is Romania Visa?

The Romanian visa is an endorsement that lets people enter the country to engage in various activities depending on the type of the permit. A lot of nationals do not need a permit to enter the country. These include nationalities of the Schengen, Cyprus, Bulgaria, etc. Since India is not among them, a Romania visa for Indian citizens is mandatorily required. Although not currently present, a Romania e visa will be made available in the near future.

The application for the Romania visa  is a fairly easy process. Before starting the application, you must ensure that you are eligible to travel to the country on the particular type of the Romanian permit. After that, you can proceed to make the application as follows –

  1. Acquire all the documents needed for the application, as well as get scanned copies of those.
  2. Visit the Romania e visa portal and create your account.
  3. Fill in the Romania online visa application form with all your details.
  4. Upload the scanned copies of the documents.
  5. Submit the application.
  6. Visit the consular section of the embassy with the documents, application confirmation, and the fees.
  7. Submit them and pay the fees at the embassy.

In certain cases, you may be asked to attend an interview at the embassy. Ensure that you fill in the correct details and provide genuine documents. Providing false documents or fake documents can lead to visa rejection.

  • Airport Transit (A) – This is issued for individuals who are travelling through a Romanian airport on a transit journey.
  • Transit (B) – These are granted for people who have to pass through Romania via road or sea on transit.
  • Tourist (C/TU) – This is issued for tourists who are visiting Romania for the purpose of tourism.
  • Visit (C/VV) – These short term permits are issued for individuals who have been invited by a family member or friend living in the country.
  • Business (C/A) – This is granted for people visiting Romania to take part in business-related activities.
  • Cultural/Scientific/Humanitarian/Medical (C/ZA) – This type is for people who are visiting the country to take part in cultural, scientific, or humanitarian activities, or also for short term medical treatment.
  • Sports (C/SP) –  These are granted for individuals who have to participate in a sporting event in Romania.
  • Employment (D/AM) – This long term ‘D’ type is granted for a duration of longer than 90 days for the purpose of taking up a job in the country.
  • Family Reunion (D/VF) – This is issued for people travelling to unite with their family members living in Romania.
  • Studies (D/SD) – These types of permits are issued for students entering the country to enroll in long term academic courses.

Documents Required for Romania Visa.

As per the Romania visa application requirements, the following are the general set of documents required for applying for the permit. However, based on the individual categories, there will be additional documentation requirements.

  • A passport valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry into the country.
  • A photograph meeting the specifications.
  • Detailed travel itinerary.
  • Confirmed flight tickets.
  • Proof of sufficient funds such as bank statements.
  • Travel insurance.

As per the Romania visa requirements for Indian citizens, the photographs must meet the following specifications –

  • 35mm X 45mm
  • Colour: Coloured
  • Head must occupy the central position
  • Must be captured within the last 3 months
  • Background: Solid, plain white or grey
  • 80% face coverage
  • Neutral expression
  • Glasses: Thin framed and prescription glasses only
  • Headgears – only for religious reasons
  • Facial hair – permitted

Processing Time

The time taken to process the application can be anywhere near 15-21 working days or more after you submit it at the embassy. However, it can vary significantly based on several factors including the type of the permit, the number of entries, the volume of applications at the embassy, your previous travel history and so on. As a result, ensure that you apply well in advance.
